Refinish, don’t replace

Why GoldFinchRenovation Refinishes Instead of Replacing

Most kitchen cabinets are structurally sound long after their finish looks tired. Dated oak, yellowed white paint and worn edges are surface problems, and they have a surface solution.

Replacing cabinets means removing countertops, disconnecting plumbing, patching walls and floors, and living without a kitchen for weeks. Refinishing keeps the boxes, layout and counters you already have and transforms what you actually see: the colour, the sheen and the smoothness of every door and frame.

The result is a kitchen that feels new for a fraction of what a full renovation costs, finished in days rather than weeks, with far less material heading to landfill.

Our process

How a GoldFinchRenovation Project Works

A clear, predictable process so you always know what happens next.

  1. Free estimate & colour consult

We look at your cabinets, talk through colours and sheens, and give you a written quote and schedule.

  2. Protect & prepare

Doors and hardware are removed and labelled, the room is masked off, and every surface is degreased and sanded.

  3. Prime & spray

A bonding primer goes on first, followed by multiple sprayed coats of durable cabinet-grade finish.

  4. Reinstall & walkthrough

Doors and hardware go back on, hinges are adjusted, and we walk through the finished kitchen together.

Quality you can feel

The GoldFinchRenovation Finish: What Makes It Last

A cabinet finish is only as good as the preparation under it. Kitchen cabinets collect cooking grease, hand oils and cleaning residue that ordinary paint simply will not stick to. That is why so many DIY cabinet paint jobs chip around handles within months.

Our process starts with a thorough degreasing, then scuff-sanding to give the surface tooth. A high-adhesion bonding primer locks onto the original finish, and the colour coats are sprayed rather than brushed or rolled, leaving no brush marks, roller texture or drips.

Each coat is given time to cure properly before the next goes on, and doors are handled carefully until they are hard enough for daily use. The payoff is a finish that is smooth to the touch and easy to wipe clean.

Questions

GoldFinchRenovation FAQ

How long does cabinet refinishing take?

It depends on the size of the kitchen and the number of doors and drawers. Most projects take several working days from prep to reinstall, and we give you a clear schedule with your estimate so you can plan around it.

Can I use my kitchen during the project?

Yes, in most cases. Doors and drawers are finished away from the kitchen, and the frames are masked and sprayed in stages, so you can usually keep using your sink and fridge.

Can laminate or thermofoil cabinets be refinished?

Many laminate surfaces can be refinished with the right bonding primer. Thermofoil that is peeling or bubbling usually needs to be removed first. We will assess your cabinets during the free estimate and tell you honestly what will work.

Do I need to empty my cabinets?

We ask that you clear the counters and remove items from cabinets with frames being sprayed. We will let you know exactly what to move before we start.

Can you change the hardware at the same time?

Absolutely. Refinishing is the perfect time to switch to new pulls, knobs or soft-close hinges. If the new hardware uses different hole spacing, we can fill and re-drill before finishing.
